“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:9
Could it be this verse also has reference to even in the life of a believer while yet walking with God as yet on this earth?
Rest assured the desire will be there. As it was with Moses so shall that desire be in the heart of every born again child of God.
As the Apostle John had the desire to be as close to Jesus as humanly possible where we read: “Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.” John 13:23
As we read the life of the Apostle John it is easy to see his life and heart’s desire was to be close to his Lord as possible. It’s pretty hard to lay any charge to his account.
The thought that caught my attention was “pure in heart” and “shall see God.”
What makes this stand out is the truth, every child of God “will see God” in heaven. There will no exception there.
“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” I John 3:1
And of course we shall see Him, “At His Appearing.” and “we shall be changed.”
With this in mind, what about now?
“The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.” Psalm 25:14
All the way back under the “covenant” of the law of Moses there was the blessing to those who would walk in the fear of The Lord and keep His commandments. While this has nothing to do with their salvation, for that rested in the blood sacrifice, nevertheless, the blessings of walking in the precepts written in the “covenant,” law of Moses still carried it’s rewards.
Also looking at the same promise and fast forward to the “covenant” of Grace promised in Abraham.
Is the “secret of the LORD.” any less to those under this “covenant” of Grace today? I think not.
The “covenant” of Grace is simply “Jesus.” the promised “seed.”
So it is said, He will “show” them His covenant. “Those that fear Him.”
I realize we see Him through faith and that looking back to Calvary.
Now looking again at our text verse. ““Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:9
Could it be we can apply this in a spiritual sense of when our Lord Jesus will in those times as it were, Heaven on earth in our hearts and His presence so real that “we see God,” with the eyes of faith, at least as much as is possible until we stand before Him in heaven?
We do know and have a glimpse. — “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12
Should this be in any case a possibility, is it too much to assume as it is written, “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.” Psalm 25:14
Is it too much for us to ask ourselves this question? Is it worth striving to walk with our Lord with the desire in our hearts as pure as we know how and “see Him?”
Is it worth, “…..let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;….” Hebrews 12:1-2
While “Looking unto Him,” do we “see” Him?
“And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” I John 3:3
“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” I John 3:2
Whether or how close we get a glimpse of our Lord, even Christ Jesus in our hearts while yet on this earth or not, does not take away from our desire to see Him nor does it take away from the truth not only desiring to live pure before Him plus it certainly is His desire for us to do so.
And why?
“But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.” Hebrews 2:9
I believe it can be said of our dear sister, Fanny Crosby though blind in her natural eyes, came close to seeing Him in her walk before her Lord. Through “faith” the child of God “sees” far beyond anything this world can or ever will see. Blessed assurance, Jesus is mime. And even the better, we are His.
