Band-Aid or Cure
In the title above, my mind goes back to my military service and training. Along with all the training as soldiers in fighting, we were also trained in taking care of our wounded. In fighting there also comes the wounded among us. Most of the time, we soldiers ourselves were the first line of defense in the life saving of our own.
We carried large bandages and other items in our gear. In the event one of our own being hit and usually the loss of blood is the big issue. Clearing the airways and never using our fingers for that due to them being bitten off. Use a stick or whatever we had to keep the mouth open as airway clear.
We were trained in dealing with shock. Very common in combat is shock. Lower the head and elevate the feet in order to get all the available blood to the brain.
Bad wounds with blood loss, never turn the gauze side to the wound. Turn it outward and plastic side against the wound and keep the blood inside the body. Deal with infection later. Loosing all the blood, infection will never come into play anyway. Tourniquets and the whole nine yards, and more I won’t even mention here.
All that training remains inside of me to this day. Lord willing I want to look at this in the light of a soldier in our Lords Army. I see wounded on every side nowadays. I also have suffered many of the same wounds in my soul over the years. In the Veteran, the hardest wound to deal with is the shrapnel in the soul. That’s the reason we have so many that commit suicide. And it breaks my heart, knowing but for the grace of God, there go I. Surely there is help and healing for these.
Many times these wounds are treated today with a Band-Aid when they require the Cure. This is where we as soldiers in our Lords Army come in and will make a difference, if only will we allow our Lord to use us. On the field, our medical training, was only a stopgap measure to stop the blood and as best we could, prevent going into shock until the Medivac Chopper arrives and continue their rescue of saving lives, on to a field hospital nearby. Eventually, if we did all we could on the ground and Medivac doing their job, these will survive and make it home.
Children, are you willing to be that one and go the second mile and put your life on the line for the spiritually wounded, laying your heart bare before them and taking the chance of being hurt yourself in order to save a life?
We can be much more than the Band-Aid. We can be the avenue of the Cure. Only allowing our Lord Jesus be real enough in our hearts and lives revealing we are more than just a Band-Aid Christian. Band-Aids have their place but seldom do they save a life. Only the Cure will save a life. We that are saved have the cure in our hearts. Why be content to live our selfish life and leave Him there? Dare to make a difference in someone’s life. We are called to be the First Re-ponders. They do not run from the wounded. They run to them. We are not alone in this mission. We have a heavenly Medivac just waiting the call. Our Church is a great Field Hospital. Then next comes the trip Home, safe and sound.
I was once a wounded in heart soldier, but someone cared enough to come to where I was with more than a Band-Aid, but with the Cure. Life is worth living for me now. Had someone not cared enough to come to me, the road I was going down, I may very well have been, just another suicide Statistics, rather than penning these words on a screen. I’m I worth it? In my Lord’s eyes, I must have been. It’s my heart’s desire, to make a difference in the lives of those he places before me. Bless his Holy Name.
